TO KEEP
IT SIMPLE, the new DIGITAL Heat Siphon
has just two buttons - UP and DOWN.
Setting the water temperature and
switching modes (pool spa or auto-pic)
are simple:
CHANGE the
TEMPERATURE - just push
and release either
button and the current
set-point flashes on and
off for 3 seconds.
Press UP or DOWN to
raise or lower the
set-point. After 3
seconds a beep tells you
it has accepted your new
set-point. Simple
enough - DONE!
SWITCH TO POOL (or
SPA) SETPOINT - Press
BOTH "UP" and "DOWN" at
the same time and
release. The display
will flash the current
mode ("Pool" or "Spa" or
"Auto-Pic"). Then press
either key until the
mode you want is
displayed. In 3 seconds
a beep tells you the
displayed mode is

their codes are listed right there on

Heat Siphon Noise Test Results
Quieter By Design
This noise test shows that a pool pump can produce three times as
many noise decibels as a Heat Siphon. With a Heat Siphon Heat
Pump you can keep a clear normal level conversation right on top of
the unit while operating.
Heat Siphon's Engineering team designed noise quieting into the
product by studying the common sources of noise in outdoor air
conditioning and heat pump systems and by reducing or eliminating
the causes of all major known sources.
Fan blades will create a lot of noise if they are close to any
immobile objects. If two or three blades pass an object at the
same time then this noise level is doubled or tripled.
Heat Siphon uses a specially designed staggered fan mount which
eliminates multi-blade noise and keeps the blades far from any
stationery objects to make it whisper quiet.
Our Scroll Models offer the further noise
quieted Scroll Compressor for additional low noise operation.

Why Heat Siphon is Designed for MAXIMUM COP not Highest BTUH
Heat Output
A normal size residential pool in the colder heating months will
require as much as a million (1,000,000) BTU of heat a day to
replace the heat lost to maintain its warm water temperature.
To show how EFFICIENCY (COP) and HEAT OUTPUT (BTUH) are related, we
created this animation (SEE BELOW) of the delivery of that million
BTU's using Heat Siphon and two other "typical" competitive Pool
Heat Pumps based on their efficiency and heat output specifications.
The graphic below shows a
simulation of the actual daily electric cost over 11 hours for HEAT
SIPHON and TWO OTHER BRANDS of 5HP Size Pool Het Pumps:
1st
column- the Model SX5HP HEAT SIPHON (COP=6.8
with 95,000 BTUH output) - takes 10.5 hours to deliver the million
BTU's
2nd column - Brand X
(COP of 6.0 with 125,000 BTUH) - takes only 8 hours to deliver the
heat but ends up spending 13% MORE for electricity than Heat Siphon.
3rd column - Brand Y
(COP=5.0 with 115,000 BTUH) still gets there in 8.7 hours but costs
36% more than Heat Siphon.
A properly sized Heat Siphon should average about 8 to 12 hours/day
of runtime over a swimming season. This guarantees excess
heating capacity without over-sizing. The proper design then
maximizes COP not BTUH.
LOWER EFFICIENCY (brand x and y) compressors with slightly higher
BTUH output are available and cheaper than those Heat Siphon uses.
Likewise smaller heat exchangers will cost much less but reduce
efficiency further.

Heater Can't Live Without it
Because Titanium is so costly heat pump
manufacturers have looked at various alternative heat exchanger
tubing materials and designs to try to lower their manufacturing
costs. Some use only one wrap of titanium tubing in
their heat exchanger which drastically
reduces efficiency (COP).
In fact Heat Siphon uses TWICE as much
titanium as two of our leading competitors. A comparison of
COP ratings will confirm this.
Another potential solution is to use less expensive copper tubing
just like the gas heaters do. After all, copper is a very good
heat conductor.
The problem with bare copper is that it will rapidly
corrode in high chlorine pool water and a green copper oxide coating
will form which is a very poor heat conductor.
worse yet, if corrosion continues then the tube wall will leak and
ruin the heat pump system.
To protect the copper some manufacturers have looked at various
plastic coatings, however, plastic coatings are just as
bad as copper oxide at heat conduction. They
insolate the hot refrigerant gas inside the tube from the water
outside, lower heat transfer efficiency. This increases the
compressor watts and lowers your COP.
In fact, all plastic materials have heat transfer coefficient
less than 1% of copper or titanium metal, so even a thin coating of
any type of plastic will significantly decrease heat transfer
and efficiency. Only the thinnest coating can even hope to
come close to bare Titanium in heat conduction and even then the
thinner it is the more likely it is to have a small pinhole or
incomplete coverage of the vulnerable copper tube underneath.

Hot Refrigerant Gas Can Pass But NOT STRAY VOLTAGE
Although titanium eliminates chemical
corrosion in even the harshest pool water a small number of heat
exchanger failures occur in pool heaters found to have stray low
voltage traveling to or from the pool water through the heat
exchanger, which would cause corrosion no matter what metal was
used.
With the aid of sensitive digital volt meters, field servicemen can
actually measure stray voltage between the heat exchanger and the
power supply ground wire or local earth grounding rods required for
pool equipment bonding. Floating grounds on power supplies,
electronic chlorinators and even underwater pool lights can leak
harmless low voltage electricity, less than 3 volts, into the pool
which force electrolytic corrosion of the heat exchanger in a matter
of weeks.
As the drawing shows, Heat Siphon uses a patented design
electrically isolated Titanium fitting which seals the hot
refrigerant gas inside the metal tube walls using o-rings, and a
separate set of non-metallic insulator rings outside the first seal
to break the conduction path normally made by the metal tube.
Since the heat exchanger housing is connected to PVC schedule 40
piping and the shell is fabricated entirely out of injection molded
or extruded PVC plastic, It also provides isolation from any stray
voltage.
This proven heat exchanger & fitting design eliminates galvanic
corrosion as a source of heat exchanger failure while also making
the heat exchanger safer by electrically isolating it from the rest
of the heat Siphon and from your pool water.
