Do I need an Electric Pool Heater or an Electric Pool Heat Pump?
by Marcus Miller

What is the difference between an electric pool heater and an electric pool heat pump? If you landed on this page it's because you probably did a search for "Electric Pool Heater", or "Electric Pool Heat Pump". We thought that these two terms can be confusing, so we decided to first explain them a little bit more:

Electric pool heaters and pool heat pumps run with electricity.
The difference is that a pool heat pump will not generate heat from a heating element (like an electric heater) but will harvest the heat from the air and transfer this heat to your pool water. A small amount of electricity is used to run the compressor and other components. This system is the most cost effective way of heating up your pool. It costs 4 or 5 times less than a gas heater or a simple electric element heater. (Looks like the element on an electric stove)

Electric element  heaters are also known as tank less heaters. They cost up to 5 or 6 times more to run than a heat pump but are usually less expensive to buy initially and are convenient for spas because they don't take up much space and can be put indoors. They cost too much to run to heat a pool though. Some people use them or gas heaters for indoor pools in cold weather states in the winter and a heat pump in the warmer months to get the most savings.

There is more to learn about each one. So please follow the links below or enter our index page by clicking below. We will also love to hear from you at 1 800 741 9956 to help you size your pool heater or if you have any other questions.

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!
