Sweet Dreams Program

Welcome to our most cherished page on our website. The Sweet Dreams Program was conceived early in 2008 as a way of reaching kids in need in remote areas in Peru. These are forgotten children that receive very little help who live in hard to access areas outside the city where basic needs like clean water, sewer systems and many basic services that we take for granted are unavailable or unaffordable.  These are families with children that live in shacks made out of cardboard, tin and scrap wood. The fortunate ones have some mud, rock or brick construction mixed in. Inside their homes, there is very little furniture. Just the barest of necessities. Something as basic as a bed is often missing for these children because their parents after spending money for food, can't buy anything else. Most all of the homes have dirt floors and that is where the kids sleep when there are no beds available. The lucky ones will have some kind of bedding material or an old mattress. The weather in these areas is also very harsh with extreme heat in the Summer and freezing temperatures in the Winter. These conditions contribute to many heath problems, including respiratory illnesses. We want to help alleviate the discomfort and suffering that these children experience.

We believe that a warm bed is important for a healthy child. It not only  keeps them dry and warm, protecting them from sicknesses, but it gives them a safe place to rest and a sense of security. This is a gift for them from us that we want them to have throughout their childhood.

A percentage of each heat pump sale goes to purchase these beds. Our goal is for each child  to receive a complete bed with a wood base, mattress, sheets, blanket and a pillow. Some of these poor kids have never put their heads on a pillow, and it touches our hearts to see them trying them for the first time. This dream is possible thanks to the help of our friends in Peru, "Grupo Peruanitos".  They receive the donations, have the beds built, purchase the rest of the bedding and deliver them on a monthly basis to the most needy of children. We want to deeply thank them for all their hard work  and dedication to these children  in need. We have posted more information about their organization below with a link to their web site. Besides helping us with the Sweet Dreams Program, they also have different philanthropic programs running throughout the year.

About Grupo Peruanitos

As part of our housing division, GRUPO PERUANITOS has implemented since march 2008 the SWEET DREAMS PROGRAM. It consists in providing beds for the poorest children in Lima, and other Peruvian provinces.

MOTIVATION
Many of these children in these regions sleep on the floor; in other cases we may find three to four children sleeping in the same bed. There is a great deal of need in this area.

CONTENT
Every twin bed consist of a wooden frame, linen set, mattress, pillow and a bedspread.  The bed wooden frame is constructed by a local carpenter.

PRICE
The approximate price of each bed including the delivery is 300 New Soles (Peruvian currency) and which is equivalent to 100 USD or 75 Euros.

OUTREACH
One hundred Peruvian children, from the ages of two to twelve that are living in the most poverty stricken areas. The children are pre-selected.

FINANCING
Since all our working areas are covered by volunteer groups, this program is financed by voluntary donations from families, friends and organizations.

Cordially,

Tito Perez and Adriana Torres
