Towel Day

“A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”

Towel DaySaturday (May 25th) is Towel Day.  Towel Day pays tribute to Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. After his death, Hitchhiker fans wanted to honor him so Towel Day was created.  In Chapter 3 of his book he talks about the importance of towels…  ”A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”  So in honor of Adams, fans from around the world (or universe), carry around towels.

So before, during (well, maybe not during) and after your swim, be sure to keep your towel around ya, to celebrate Towel Day with the rest of the universe!

Swimming Pool Safety

We at PoolHeatPumps.com love pools, we love warm water for pools (obviously), but most importantly, we love when our customers and their families are safe!  Thank you to the Consumer Product Safety Commission for writing this important article about pool safety in residential pool and spas!

pool safetyCPSC recommends that residential pool and spa owners adopt water safety steps to prevent children from accessing the water when there is no adult supervision, and they are appropriately protected when an adult is available to supervise.

By asking and answering these critical questions, you can gauge the effectiveness of your water safety measures, and determine what steps need to be taken to protect children from drowning and submersion injuries:

  • Is there a fence around the perimeter of your pool or spa?
  • Are there self-closing and self-latching gates?
  • Are there door, gate or pool alarms in use?
  • Does your pool have anti-entrapment drain covers that are compliant with the P&SS Act?
  • Are all pool and spa covers in working order?
  • Has the public pool or spa you use been inspected to ensure it is compliant with federal, state and local laws?
  • Has someone in the family received training in CPR, first aid and emergency response?
  • Has everyone learned to swim?

This pool safety information is taken from the article “How Safe is Your Residential Pool or Spa“.

How to Get Chlorine Out of Hair

If you liked this post, say thanks by sharing it.

chlorine out of hairIf you swim a lot, you may have noticed that your hair turns a shade of green.  And unless you are going for the Oscar the Grouch look, its probably an issue.  Here are some great ideas for removing chlorine out of hair.

  • Shower and shampoo your hair right away.  Use a “swimmers shampoo” that contains sodium thiosulfate for best effects.
  • Shampoo hair with club soda.  The carbonation helps break up the chlorine.
  • Lather up with Vitamin C.  You can use Vitamin C crystals or a product such as SwimSpray.
  • Shampoo hair with ketchup, tomato paste or tomato juice.  Comb it through, let it sit awhile and rinse out.
  • Kool-Aid isn’t just for kids anymore! Use a packet of Lemonade flavored Kool-Aid (or generic brand) and make a paste with water.
  • Sprinkle on some Baking Soda.  Make a paste from water and baking soda.  If you hair feels slimey while using it, it means its working well.
  • The cure for everything – Apple Cider Vinegar.  ACV is also a great rinse for the hair to remove chlorine.

What other products work great for you?
