Many pool chemical products require that the pool owner know how many gallons are in their pool. And in order to properly heat your pool, knowing the gallons of water in your pool is important…. thankfully our experts at PoolHeatPumps.com can do the math for you.
But for those of you that want to know that information ahead of time…. here are some quick calculations for figuring out the gallons in your pool!
You will need to know four different numbers: Length, Width, Average Depth* and a Multiplier that determines gallons. Here are the formulas for your specific pool shape:
If you have a Rectangular, Square or a Free Form Pool:
Length x Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Total gallons
If you have a Circular Pools:
Diameter x Diameter x Average Depth x 5.9 = Total gallons
If you have an Oval Pool:
Long Diameter x Short Diameter x Average Depth x 5.9 = Total gallons
**In order to determine the average depth of your pool, measure the shallow end and measure the deep end of the pool. Add those dimensions together and divide that number by 2. This is the average depth of your pool.
