Swimming is an excellent source of exercise for the entire body! Swimming offers something no other aerobic exercise does: the ability to work your body without harsh impact to your skeletal system. Swimming can increase muscle tone, strength, and flexibility.
The hot summer months mean more time spent outdoors and in the pool. More sun time means more potential for burning your skin. Sunburns are painful and sun exposure is damaging to our skin and can lead to skin cancer. Sunscreen can offer sunburn protection if applied and used properly.
Sunscreen has levels called SPF (sun protection factor). The higher the SPF, the longer you can be out in the sun and have your skin be protected, compared to being out in the sun without sunscreen.
Many sunscreens come in water-resistant and waterproof options. Products that are water-resistant, offer protection for up to 40 minutes of swimming. Waterproof options protect up to 80 minutes while being in the water.
Most sunscreens get wiped off when a towel is used, so each time you dry off, be sure to reapply your sunscreen.
Most sunscreens should be reapplied every 2 hours, for best results!
So lather up, protect your skin and enjoy the sun!!
