Heat and Cool Your Swimming Pool

Heat and Cool your swimming pool and extend your swimming season by cooling your pool during the summer and heating the water in the spring and fall.

A heat and cool model will both heat and cool your pool, but more importantly the heat and cool models contain a piece of technology called a reversing valve. The reversing valve in the heat and cool models allows the pool heat pump to defrost itself and continue heating, even when the ambient air temp is in the low 40's. Whereas heat only pool heat pumps will frost up and stop heating when the air temp is below 50 degrees.  This type of pool heat pump is a must for those who want to extend their pool season to the max.

Heat and Cool Pool Heat Pumps

Extend your swimming season with year round pool heating applications.
Heat-cool pool heat pumps (also called pool chillers) can give you a longer swimming pool season by cooling your pool water on hot summer days, and warming the water in the spring and fall when the ambient air temp can sometimes be in the low 40's.

How Do Heat and Cool Pool Heat Pumps Work?

Heat-Cool units have a unique reversing cycle which enables the pool heat pump not only to take the chill out of the water, but also to put it back in, cooling your pool water during the hot summer months!

Usually a pool heat pump will capture heat energy from the air with the evaporator coil. Using refrigerant and several other components, the heat is transferred over to your pool water. By reversing this process, the pool heat pump can actually take heat out of the water, transfer it to the Freon, and run it through the evaporator coil. The coil releases the heat into the outside air. In colder conditions, a standard pool heat pump will freeze up when the ambient air drops below 50 degrees. With a Heat-Cool unit, the reversing valve will allow the pool heat pump to defrost itself, which enable the unit to continue heating at much lower ambient air temps.

Advantages of Heating and Cooling Units

Heat and Cool units are just the right pool heat pump for climates with cool temperatures, but also extremely hot summer months. You can relax in your pool during the hot days of summer with cool, refreshing, chilled pool water. You can also enjoy warm pool water in the Spring and Fall – no more shocking cold water! When Heat-Cool units are in the heating mode, they will warm the pool at colder outside air temperatures than heat only units. With a Heat-Cool pool heat pump, your water temperature will always be comfortable.
